MGM Grand Gamble: Slot Overview

I was well aware of MGM Resort’s move to pick up Push Gaming via LeoVegas in an eye catching EUR 150 million deal. One of the fruits is MGM Grand Gamble, a big green behemoth cloned from Push Gaming’s panda hit Big Bamboo. The base game frames the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas, the one with the green angular look and the huge golden lion. Trigger free spins and you’re invited inside, with plush touches tying the action to its new paymasters.

Aside from a massive face change, the maths mirrors the original. It runs a highly volatile model with RTP of 96.13% or 96.52% when using the gamble feature. Stakes run from 0.10 to 20 per spin on a 5 reel, 6 row setup with 50 paylines. Lows are pears, lemons, plums, cherries; highs are horseshoes, bells, sevens, dollar signs. Five of a kind lows pay 0.4x the bet, while premiums range from 12x to 150x. Wilds match the dollar sign, appear on all reels, and substitute.

MGM Grand Gamble Symbols and Paytable

The paytable is straight to the point. Wild and the dollar sign top the set at x150 for five, with four paying x10 and three x2, and even two paying x0.5. Other premiums step down to x20, x16, and x12 for five-of-a-kind. Fruit lows are flat across the board at x0.4 for five, x0.2 for four, and x0.1 for three. Values align with the 50 line layout, and wilds stand in for all regular pays.

MGM Grand Gamble: Slot Features

Mystery MGM symbols can land in base and bonus. When they hit, they reveal matching pays, wilds, or Grand Gamble symbols. If they show a Grand Gamble symbol, the feature fires. Each position spins on its own, landing one of five outcomes: Instant Prize worth 1x to 5,000x the bet; a multiplier of x2 to x10 that boosts instant prize or collector values before disappearing; scatters; gamble scatters; or a collector that banks all instant prizes and stays put.

Scatters and gamble scatters may land naturally or via the feature. In base or free spins, scatters show only on reels 2, 3, and 4, while during Grand Gamble they can appear anywhere. In base, if scatters sit on reels 2 and 3, a gamble scatter can land on reel 4 and spin to reveal a blank, 4 to 9 free spins, 7 to 9 free spins with 2 dots, or 8 to 10 free spins with 4 dots.

If a gamble scatter awards a lower free spins tier, I can take a punt on the gamble wheel to push up; a miss pays nothing. During free spins, scatters are collected beside the reels on four dot meters for each low symbol. Filling a meter converts that low to Mystery MGM symbols and gives extra spins: +4 first, then +3, +3, and +2, with a multiplier added to Instant Prizes and Collector. Bonus buys sit at 99x, 179x, 608x, or 300x.

MGM Grand Gamble: Slot Verdict

I can picture the suits asking for something big, not an infinite winning setup, and settling on a Big Bamboo reskin with the mighty MGM lion and a 50,000x top prize. That pitch works. It’s not a bad game either, and it helps when you’re reworking an already winning slot. The reskin passes without a hitch, and I get the Strip vibe on my phone without hopping a flight or facing the heat and the crowds.

For me, the presentation could have used a touch more identity. Big Bamboo had engaging characters; here it feels a bit generic. MGM Grand Gamble makes for a decent conversion and the feature mix carries the gameplay, but it struggles to carve out something new if you’ve spun the source. Still, the numbers are right, the Grand Gamble bursts give proper shots, and the buy menu lets me set the pace when I’m in the mood.
