First look at Gold Rush
Ok so here's my honest take on Gold Rush, also branded as Diggers Gold Rush from Barbara Bang. Released in June 2023, it drops you inside a dimly lit mining cave on a 5x3 grid with 243 ways. The headline feature is a Hold and Spin bonus with magnets. First impression: solid, not wild.
I'll be blunt, no filter. The visuals sell the underground setting well, with handmade wooden symbols, lanterns and lamp helmets. The soundtrack is genuinely catchy, maybe the best part. But this is a familiar goldmine theme done competently rather than anything you haven't seen before.

RTP and volatility behaviour
RTP sits at 96%, dead centre and nothing to shout about. Hot take maybe, but the RTP paired with high volatility is what makes this a tough sell for smaller bankrolls. Wins and losses swing hard, and there is no guarantee any spin returns gold.
Bets run from 0.10 up to 500 per spin, so both cautious and heavy players fit in. The ceiling is a 20,000x max win, which is the number that keeps you spinning. Quick reality check on the max win: it needs a long chain of cascading multipliers to land, and that is rare. Real talk, this maths favours experienced players who can ride out dry stretches.
Decoding the symbols
Digger is the top regular symbol, paying 1x, 5x or 30x depending on how many land. Girl follows at 10x for five, then the Miner's Helm, Pickaxe and Lantern fill the mid tier. Card royals A, K and Q sit at the bottom and pay tiny amounts.
The Wild Detonator is the key piece here. It shows up on every reel except the first and substitutes for any character to complete a win. Worth noting it does not land on reel one, so left-to-right builds lean on the other four reels to carry the combination.

How the bonuses trigger
Not gonna lie, the bonus buy is steep at 100x the bet. That drops you straight into the Hold and Spin mini-game, or you can wait for three or more bonus symbols to trigger it naturally during a win. The round adds two extra rows to the grid.
Three to five bonus symbols launch one, two or three magnets. After a win, those magnets slide under a reel and collect multipliers that stack up the total. The three respins reset every time you hit a win, so the round extends as long as you keep landing collects.
Edit: to clarify, there are no free spins in Gold Rush, which surprised me for a mining slot. The cascading multiplier fills that gap during the base game, growing with each successive tumble and with no cap on the chain. That uncapped mechanic is where the real damage happens.
