My simple test of Wisdom of Athena 1000

Wisdom of Athena 1000 is a high-volatility Greek mythology slot from Pragmatic Play. Hello all, I just wanted to share my thoughts after looking closely at its 6x5 Scatter Pays grid. A locked position sits above every reel, and consecutive Tumble wins gradually open that extra row. My first impression is positive, though the game asks for patience.

Wins need at least eight matching symbols anywhere, so there are no fixed paylines to follow. That is easy enough to follow if you're new to it. Athena stands beside the reels in battle armour, while the brighter outdoor setting gives this edition a cleaner appearance than the original. Her repeated voice comments become noticeable during longer sessions, and I preferred playing with the sound lower.

Reading Athena's paytable

Premium symbols include the scroll, golden cup, golden helmet and gold coin, with the best regular payout reaching x50 for at least 15 matching symbols. Lower values come from the green wheel, blue wheel, light-blue sword, pink owl and red helmet. Eight matching copies are enough to pay, regardless of where they appear across the active grid.

Athena is the Scatter and triggers the bonus when four or more land during one Tumble sequence. Four, five and six Scatters also pay 2x, 15x and 100x the stake respectively. No Wild appears in Wisdom of Athena 1000, but that omission does not damage the anywhere-pay system. Multiplier symbols are more important here, with individual values from x2 to x1,000.

How the expanding bonus works

Winning combinations start a Tumble, removing paying symbols before replacements fall into the gaps. Each continued win advances the locked top row from left to right. Multiplier values visible at the end of the sequence are added together and applied to that sequence's total win. Reaching the final top position demands 46 consecutive Tumbles, so a completely open grid is exceptionally rare.

Four or more Scatters award 10 Free Spins. Row positions begin locked, but any progress made during the feature remains for every later spin. Multiplier symbols also feed a persistent total that does not reset between spins. Three or more Scatters during the round add five extra spins. Good. That persistence is the strongest part of the game and gives later spins greater potential.

UK players cannot use the 100x Bonus Buy. An Ante Bet may also be restricted by market, but where available it raises each stake by 25% and doubles the bonus chance. The bonus doesn't land often, just so you know. Its standard average is one trigger per 433.7 spins, which falls to one per 216.85 spins with Ante Bet active.
