First look at Sugar Merge Up
Sugar Merge Up arrives from BGaming as the latest entry in the studio's MergeUp series, running a 6x6 grid on Cluster Pays with no paylines at all. Four or more matching symbols connected anywhere trigger the merge, pushing survivors up a nine-level ladder of candies. The pitch sounds fresh. The execution is a reskin.
Set in a valley of green jelly, the presentation is cleaner than what came before, with the Merge Up Meter sitting above the grid and the Feature Buy panel on the right. I remain cautious here, because a polished coat of paint over an existing engine is the easiest kind of upgrade to sell and the hardest to feel across a long session.
By the numbers: what Sugar Merge Up actually returns
Headline figures read well: 97% RTP, high volatility, 10,000x the stake as a ceiling and a hit frequency of 29.41%. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50. The headline figures deserve verification, though, because the same studio ran 98% on the previous instalment and quietly trimmed a full point here while keeping the marketing tone identical.
One number matters more than the rest: 409 spins on average to reach the Bonus Game. At a minute a spin that is a long stretch of base-game merging with nothing but incremental cell multipliers to hold your attention, and it explains why so many players end up reaching for the Feature Buy panel instead. The advertised hit rate covers small cluster wins, not bonus entries.
Reading the candy ladder
Nine levels structure the whole paytable. Purple, blue, green and yellow candies sit at the bottom and pay between 4X and 16X for 12 or more of a kind, while orange, red and pink candies plus the purple bear form the upper band paying 20X to 80X. Above them come the Bubblegum, a red caramel formed from level 8 clusters, and the Scatter.
The Scatter is a lollipop stamped with an S, and three or more open the bonus. Worth noting that the Bubblegum does not pay directly; it pops, clears 8 symbols around it, doubles any Cell Multiplier it destroys and then converts into a Scatter. That conversion is the real engine of bonus entry, and it is buried three paragraphs deep in the help screen where most players will never find it.

How the bonus engine actually behaves
Three, four or five Scatters award 12, 15 or 20 Free Spins, and six or more give 30. Retriggers add +5 spins each time. During the round, highlighted cluster positions do not reset between spins, so multipliers accumulate across the whole feature rather than dying with each drop.
Cell Multipliers are the mechanic worth studying. A cell that wins twice gets 2X, and each further win in that same cell doubles the figure to a 128X ceiling. Several multipliers in one win are summed before being applied. That is a genuinely aggressive maths structure, and it makes the 10,000x claim arithmetically reachable rather than decorative.
Six Feature Buy tiers are offered: Chance x2 at 20% extra on the stake, 10X for a Random Booster, 40X for Booster x16, 100X for Sugar Joy, 250X for Super Euphoria with a 2X start in every cell, and 500X for Sugar Boom with multipliers seeded from 3 to 9 Bubblegum pops. The studio's pitch is not enough on its own, and I would sooner measure than take it on faith: at 250X and above you are paying a heavy premium for a starting state, not for better maths.
