First look at Wild Frames
Wild Frames is a 7x7 Cluster Pays slot from Play'n GO, released in December 2019 around a classic theme of diamonds, stars, bells and a lucky seven. Clusters of five or more connected symbols pay, then Cascading Reels clear them for fresh drops. The charge meter is the hook here.
Back on the Strip, the reel machines carried a different weight, and this is a modern take on a game I have known for decades. The interface does in a tap what once took a full pull of the arm. Nostalgia aside, the base game holds up on its own terms.

RTP and volatility behaviour
Numbers first: RTP sits at 94.5%, volatility runs high, and the top payout reaches 7,000x from a stake range of 0.20 to 100. I judge the max win of 7,000x against the jackpots I once chased in person, and it holds a respectable line without matching those tall progressive boards.
The volatility here runs high, much like the machines that emptied fast back then. The 94.5% RTP would have been called generous on those floors, though by today's standard it leans low. Long dry runs while the charge meter creeps upward are the price of admission.
Reading the paytable
Eight standard symbols split into premiums and low-pays. The Lucky 7 leads at x500 for a cluster of 30 or more, with the Diamond behind it at x250, the Star at x150 and the Bell at x75. Four coloured gems fill the lower tier, running from x25 down to x15 at the top cluster size.
Wild is the gold-framed W, and it does the heavy lifting. It substitutes in clusters, arrives as a random wild in the base game and takes over the entire board during the charge feature. Five matching symbols is the minimum cluster, so the 7x7 grid gives plenty of room to build.

The charge meter and wild feature
Charge is the engine that drives Wild Frames. Every winning cluster adds power to the meter, treating each win as a small step toward the main event. Once more than 80 charges accumulate, the Wild Frames Feature fires and turns all symbols into W wilds for a single spin.
During that spin the wilds form clusters and any multiplier collected from those clusters is applied to the wins. The feature trigger keeps a rhythm the old cabinets never managed, since it builds steadily rather than landing on pure chance. Random wilds and increasing multipliers fill the gaps in between.
Veterans of that era will recognise the pull of a proper bonus, and this bonus round carries the tension I used to queue up for. My one gripe: the meter can crawl for a stretch of flat spins where nothing pays, and the wait to reach 80 charges tests patience more than the old three-reelers ever did.
